This deserves its own post. It’s Kevin Nelson concept art for the village lantern-lighting sequence in “Waiting for the Lights,” but the scene in the film is so dark you can’t see anything. Here you can see every detail of one quarter of the village, including the High Street and Fountain Square.
Sketches from Doug Rogers (middle left) and Kevin Nelson (everything else).
I’m fascinated by the idea that, at one point, Rapunzel and Flynn were going to take a gondola ride through a canal in the village. But maybe that’s just because I want to see more of Corona.
Kevin Nelson’s vision for the tower. I love how the tower was hidden in the valley and the back story for it in the final film. But this looks pretty awesome.
I desperately want to see Rapunzel go into this dress shop. The top art is by Victoria Ying and the bottom sketches by Scott Watanabe.
Kevin Nelson concept art of Flynn’s escape.
This is a collection of fantastic Kevin Nelson “Tangled” concept art that includes an early version of the guard tower at the village end of the bridge (top & bottom), the floodplain on the land end of the bridge (middle left), and most wonderfully of all, a fishing village (middle right). It appears that the fishing village was originally intended to be at the land end of the bridge, but there’s no evidence of it in the final film. Instead, the village seems to make an appearance only as the first settlement in the time lapse in the prologue. This is what I reference in Chapter 2 of my fanfic.
