I’d love to have this concept art by Kevin Nelson framed on my wall. Must be Flynn. No idea what he’s up to. No good, surely…
Some brilliant concept art of the Corona wilderness by Kevin Nelson, with a concept image of the campsite by Doug Rogers (bottom right).
Apparently, at one point, Flynn’s flight from Corona happened at night. Concept art from Kevin Nelson, including one of Flynn meting with Gothel – another altered plot point.
Forest concept art from Kevin Nelson (bottom) and Lauren Airriess (top).

You base whatever you’ve got in reality. We were thinking of Central Europe - what trees grow there? We researched what the major types of forests were in Eastern Germany, Poland, and Hungary. We kept to oak, hornbeam, and beech because of the shapes. We wanted soft lines. -DOUG ROGERS, DESIGNER
The photos are of a beech forest I recently visited on Rügen, a German island in the Baltic Sea.
It looks like the plot changed a fair bit from when this was done. The “gypsy cart ride” only survived in the end credits, for instance. But I would guess that it still offers a pretty fair depiction of where things happen in “Tangled.” Perhaps the “guardpost” simply became the dam. I wonder, is the river that forms the dam the same one that falls into the tower valley?
Designers said they chose deciduous trees from Central Europe for the “soft curves.”
